Food waste/Kitchen waste physical and chemical properties:
Food waste contains 80%-85% water. The organic material content is p to 90% or even over 95% (calculated by dry weight). Since the waste contains high content of water, oil, organic materials, salt, it is easily acidized and decomposed and difficult to be stored.
Food waste treatment methods:
Livestock feed: It is easily for people and livestock to catch disease, which is forbidden by the National law.
Landfill: It shall cover large land areas, and pollute underground water.
Fertilizer: It shall cover large land areas with foul smell.
Anaerobic treatment: Harmless, reduction, energy sources, government encourages.
Anaerobic treatment process:
Large size materials are removed from food waste, and grease is extracted. After that, waste is mashed and tempered before put into anaerobic treatment tank. In the anaerobic treatment tank, waste contacts bacteria. Under certain pH and C/N ratio, it is acidized and produces methane which is used for power generation after purification or used as fuel. Biogas slurry is used as liquid fertilizer or discharges after aeration treatment. A few residues are used as solid fertilizer.
Technology is simple, process is short and energy consumption is low.
System is sealed without odour during the whole treatment.
Resource is highly used; the organic material conversation rate is up to 85% or even over 90%.
Biogas generation rate is high; One ton of food waste can generate 100-120m3 biogas.
Methane content is high in biogas, up to 60-75%.
